Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Clear answers to the most common queries regarding the EPFO wage limit hike.
Why is my in-hand salary decreasing with the ₹25,000 EPFO wage ceiling hike?
Previously, your mandatory EPF deduction (12%) was capped at ₹1,800/month (12% of the ₹15,000 statutory wage ceiling). Under the revised ₹25,000 limit, mandatory EPF is computed on your actual PF wages up to ₹25,000. If your basic salary is ₹25,000 or higher, your monthly deduction increases from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000, reducing your immediate monthly take-home pay by ₹1,200. This is not a loss or tax; the extra ₹1,200 is credited directly into your provident fund account earning 8.25% annual interest. Will my total CTC (Cost-to-Company) change because of this hike?
The Ministry of Labour & Employment has instructed employers not to reduce employees' gross wages or transfer the burden of the increased employer contribution to employees. However, if your employment contract defines EPF as part of your overall CTC, some private companies may adjust the increased employer contribution against other flexible allowances. Our calculator allows you to simulate both scenarios: 'Employer Absorbs' vs 'Deducted from CTC'.What if my employer was already contributing on my actual basic pay above ₹15,000?
If your company already followed the voluntary uncapped PF rule where 12% is deducted on your entire Basic Pay (e.g. ₹40,000), then this statutory wage ceiling revision will have ZERO impact on your monthly salary slip, as your contribution already exceeded the statutory ₹25,000 threshold. How does the ₹25,000 ceiling affect the EPS (Employees' Pension Scheme)?
Out of the employer's 12% total contribution, 8.33% is directed into the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS-95). Under the old ₹15,000 ceiling, the monthly EPS cap was ₹1,250 (8.33% of ₹15,000). Under the new ₹25,000 ceiling, the maximum monthly EPS deposit increases to ₹2,083 (8.33% of ₹25,000), significantly augmenting your pension service eligibility credits upon superannuation. How much extra retirement corpus will the ₹1,200 monthly deduction build?
Because both the employee and employer contribute the increased share, an additional ₹2,400 is saved each month in your PF account. Compounded at the historical EPFO interest rate of 8.25% per annum, this additional deposit accumulates into over ₹15.8 Lakhs in 20 years, and more than ₹38.5 Lakhs in 30 years.Related Government & Statutory Pension Calculators
